The Missouri Treated Timber Law requires that any Missouri retail or wholesale business posess a treated timber dealers license prior to selling treated wood products to the public. The cost of the license is $15.00 annually. The license period runs from July 1 through June 30.

Treated timber dealers are inspected on a routine basis in order to ensure that Missourians are purchasing quality treated wood products. During these inspections, core samples of treated wood are taken and checked for both retention and penetration measurements. Samples that are found to be deficient in either of these measurements are stopsaled. Regulatory stopsales are issued to the owner or custodian of the product in question. The stopsale remains in effect until the law has been complied with.

Inspectors also check branding of treated wood products to ensure that only licensed wood treaters are selling products into the state of Missouri. Once again, if treated wood products from unlicensed wood treaters are discovered at a dealer location, the product is stopsaled until the unlicensed producer has complied with the licensing requirements of the Missouri Treated Timber Law.
