For Immediate Release: June 13, 2008Department of Agriculture Fines Springfield Pesticide Business(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – The Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) announced today that a Greene County business has been fined for violating state pesticide regulations. Campbell Pest Control, of Springfield, was fined $1,743.75 for applying pesticides without following label instructions and failing to maintain complete records of pesticide applications, violations of the Missouri Pesticide Use Act. The Act, which regulates pesticide application and handling, requires certain pesticide applicators and dealers to be licensed and to maintain records of pesticide use and sales. The Act also requires that pesticides be used and disposed of according to label instructions. MDA’s Bureau of Pesticide Control was notified of the incident through a telephone call from a concerned homeowner. A subsequent investigation revealed that the pesticide applications in question were not performed in accordance with label directions and that complete use records were not maintained. The Bureau of Pesticide Control is a program within the Plant Industries Division of MDA and administers the Missouri Pesticide Use Act and the Missouri Pesticide Registration Act.
