For Immediate Release: March 14, 2008Deputy Director of Agriculture Discusses Dairy Products with one of Carthage’s Leading Businesses(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – Today Deputy Director of Agriculture Matt Boatright met with a Carthage business to learn more about Missouri’s dairy products and food supply. As part of Gov. Matt Blunt’s designation of Carthage as Missouri’s Capital for a Day, Deputy Director Boatright toured Schreiber Foods – a global leader in dairy innovation and the leading supplier of private-label, process, cream and specialty cheeses. “Missouri’s dairy producers continue to be a very important part of agriculture and we continue to do everything we can to support our dairy farmers and innovators,” said Boatright. “Schreiber Foods is a clear example of a leader in cheese production and has emerged as an international leader in processing. We had the opportunity to tour the facility to see firsthand the state-of-the-art technology this company utilizes in the production of cheese.” The Schreiber Foods Carthage plant was purchased in 1950 as Schreiber’s second facility. The plant produces everything from natural to process cheese for both retail and foodservice customers. Today, the plant and two neighboring distribution centers are part of Schreiber’s network of more than twenty facilities throughout the world. The 130-foot-high Fairview Distribution Center, located in Carthage, is the newest addition, employing state-of-the-art technology in which cranes are used to store and retrieve products vertically instead of horizontally. “Fairview is our largest distribution center in the U.S.,” said Deb Van Dyk, vice president-industry and regulatory affairs with Schreiber Foods. “The site was selected based on the customer base as well as the enthusiasm and support from our employees, the Carthage community and the state of Missouri.” Schreiber Foods operates seven production and two distribution facilities in four Missouri locations: Clinton, Monett, Mt. Vernon and Carthage. |
