For Immediate Release: February 27, 2008State Agriculture Department Fines Jackson County Pesticide Business(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – The Missouri Department of Agriculture has fined a Jackson County business for violating state pesticide regulations. DeAngelo Brothers, Inc., of Kansas City, was fined $637.50 for applying a pesticide without following label instructions, a violation of the Missouri Pesticide Use Act. The Act, which regulates pesticide application and handling, requires certain pesticide applicators and dealers to be licensed and to maintain records of pesticide use and sales. The Act also requires pesticides be used and disposed of according to label instructions. The Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Pesticide Control was notified of the incident through telephone calls from the owners of properties allegedly damaged by the incident. A subsequent investigation revealed the pesticide application in question was not performed in accordance with label directions.
