For Immediate Release: November 15, 2007Gov. Blunt Leads Agricultural Advisory Council Discussion(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – Gov. Matt Blunt this week led a discussion of the importance of agriculture to Missouri’s economy at the Governor’s Advisory Council on Agriculture meeting in Jefferson City. “Missouri agriculture is the foundation of our economy and my administration continues to support our farm families across the state by advocating for policies that will enhance the industries future,” said Gov. Blunt. “The Governor’s Advisory Council of Agriculture is a strong partnership among Missouri farmers, business leaders and government that provides innovative leadership and guidance toward maintaining and building Missouri agriculture.” Highlights of today’s meeting included Gov. Blunt’s continued support for agriculture and the accomplishments that the current administration has made including the Missouri Branded Beef program, the Large Animal Veterinary Loan Program, the Adult Agricultural Education Program expansion, the Missouri Renewable Fuels Standard, the Beef Tax Credit and Eminent Domain Law. “I appreciate the leadership and vision of producers in Missouri. The advisory council provides a great opportunity for an exchange of ideas. Promoting economic development for our Missouri agriculture will sustain our state’s economy for many generations to come,” said Katie Smith, director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture. “We must continue to support and grow agriculture in Missouri. Advancements in agriculture through key initiatives supporting Missouri’s producers will lead our state towards greater rural development and will allow our generations to prosper from their family’s farms.” |
