For Immediate Release: September 26, 2007Environmental Quality Program Provides Assistance to Missouri FarmersEQIP deadline is Oct. 5 (JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – The Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) is reminding farmers and producers in Missouri to sign up for the Natural Resources Conservation Services Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) to receive financial assistance for installing windbreaks around animal feeding operations, headquarters and farmsteads. Missouri landowners can sign up for this assistance until Oct. 5, 2007. “Missouri farmers must continue to be good neighbors and stewards of the land,” said Katie Smith, director of MDA. “By applying for assistance with the EQIP program, farmers have the opportunity to receive technical and financial assistance to help them implement good management systems through the installation of windbreaks.” The Environmental Quality Incentives Program promotes agricultural production and environmental quality giving farmers and producers the financial and technical assistance that they need to install tree screens used as shelter breaks or windbreaks.
