Agriculture Officials Surveying Crop Damage Caused by Recent Cold Weather

WHAT:

Gov. Matt Blunt has requested that Matt Boatright, acting director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture, visit Missouri grape, wheat and fruit producers to survey the recent crop damage that occurred due to the unprecedented weather conditions.

Matt Boatright will be joined by Jim Anderson, executive director of the Missouri Wine and Grape Board, Tim Kelley, executive director of Farm Service Agency, a representative from Gov. Blunt’s office and other agriculture officials in Hermann, Mo. to tour vineyards, a peach orchard and visit a wheat producer.

WHY: Traditional and specialtycrop producers across the state are estimating a great loss form the recent freeze. The Missouri Department of Agriculture and Missouri Farm Service Agency are working closely to assess the damage. More information regarding the extent of the damage will be available in the coming days and weeks.
