For Immediate Release: December 27, 2006Livestock Assistance Grants DistributedLivestock Assistance Grant Program Funds Mailed on Dec. 27(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) –The Missouri Department of Agriculture announced on Dec. 27 that $2.7 million in Livestock Assistance Grant Program funds have been mailed to producers and farmers in 30 counties in the southwestern portion of the state. The Missouri Department of Agriculture received over 8600 applications from qualifying counties applying for assistance for over 700,000 head of livestock. In August, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced this funding to assist agricultural producers recover from drought conditions and tasked the Missouri Department of Agriculture with implementing this grant program. The national package included $50 million in state block grants and Missouri was allocated $2.7 to distribute to its producers. Applications were received from producers in 30 counties including Barry, Barton, Bates, Benton, Camden, Cass, Cedar, Christian, Cooper, Dade, Greene, Henry, Hickory, Jackson, Jasper, Johnson, Lafayette, Lawrence, McDonald, Miller, Moniteau, Morgan, Newton, Pettis, Polk, Ray, St. Clair, Saline, Stone and Vernon. Qualifying livestock included adult beef cows, adult dairy cows, adult sheep ewes, adult goat does, adult equine mares, adult elk cows and adult bison cows.
