Governor’s Conference Will Highlight Tomorrow’s Agriculture(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – The 2006 Missouri Governor’s Conference on Agriculture is scheduled for Dec. 10-11, 2006 at Tan-Tar-A Resort, Osage Beach, Mo. Themed, “The Future of Agriculture Begins Today,” this conference will bring the agricultural community together to address industry trends and future choices for the Missouri agricultural industry. “Missouri farmers and ranchers are the most productive in the world,” said Gov. Matt Blunt. “The Governor’s Conference is an opportunity for Missouri’s farm families to hear more about value-added agriculture and market opportunities.” This year’s conference will begin Sunday, Dec. 10 at 5:00 p.m. with a Taste of AgriMissouri reception featuring an array of Missouri’s finest foods and beverages. Monday, Dec. 11 festivities will begin with an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m. A tentative agenda can be found at www.mda.mo.gov/govconf.htm. “The Governor’s Conference is an excellent occasion to network with fellow farmers, producers and leaders in the agricultural industry to discuss new and emerging opportunities,” said Fred Ferrell, director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture. “Many of our farmers and producers have success stories that we can all learn from by taking more creative approaches to market opportunities and technological advances. Our conference will highlight some of those stories.” The conference will host several speakers that will address what the future of agriculture means to Missouri and the nation. Speakers include: Dr. Clive James, chair, Board of Directors, International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications; Carl Casale, executive vice president, North America & Latin America North Monsanto; Dr. Jerry Caulder, chairman and CEO, Finistere; Dr. Max F. Rothschilde, C.F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture, Iowa State University of Science & Technology; Dr. Sue DeNise, vice president of Research and Development, MMI Genomics, Inc.; Dr. Lowell Catlett, Regent’s Professor of Economics, Agriculture and Genetic Engineering; and Bryan Townsend, motivational humorist. “This is the fortieth year of the Missouri Governor’s Conference on Agriculture and we really want to highlight the importance of the future of Missouri’s number one industry,” said Ferrell. “We have a great agenda including innovative speakers that will challenge and show us emerging technologies in agriculture.” For more information or to register for the upcoming Missouri Governor’s Conference on Agriculture, visit www.mda.mo.gov. |
