For Immediate Release: October 23, 2006Friendly Wager Brings Missouri Agricultural Products to the Plate(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – With the World Series in full swing and the St. Louis Cardinals tied with the Detroit Tigers 1-1, Missouri agricultural products have become part of a friendly wager between Gov. Matt Blunt and Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm. “This wager becomes even greater when you can throw some Missouri-grown products into the mix,” said Fred Ferrell, director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA). “We know the great products that we have in Missouri and now this is our chance to show Michigan what we have got to offer whether it is on the field or from the field.” If the Detroit Tigers lose the World Series, Gov. Granholm will put on an Albert Pujols jersey, enjoy a Missouri Angus steak and the choice of a bottle of Missouri’s award-winning wines, Bud Select or Fitz’s Root Beer and read the first chapter of Three Nights in August. Gov. Granholm will also be asked to call the McGraw Millhaven Show on the Big 550 KTRS. In the unlikely event that the Cardinals do not bring home the World Series title, Gov. Blunt will put on a Detroit Tigers jersey, hold a sign that reads “Jim Leyland is my Tiger” and consume a Lil’ Caesars Pizza washed down by Vernor’s Ginger Ale. Gov. Blunt will also call the Mitch Albom Show on WJR Radio in Detroit to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” “We are excited that our Cardinals are playing in this year’s World Series and happy that agriculture gets to be a part of the action,” said Ferrell. “Missouri’s Angus steak is one of the best in the world and our state’s 58 wineries offer a wide variety of tastes and enjoyment. Gov. Granholm will not be disappointed by her losing wager.” |
