For Immediate Release: September 19, 2006Celebrate Missouri’s Wine History at Mercantile Library(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – Recognizing and celebrating the history of Missouri wines, the Mercantile Library of St. Louis will be exhibiting “History Uncorked: Two Centuries of Missouri Wine” during an opening reception on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. The winner of the prestigious 2006 Missouri Governor’s Cup – for the best wine in the state – will be announced during the event. In addition, the 2006 Missouri Wine Competition gold medal winning wines and heavy appetizers will be available at the event for all to experience and enjoy. “The history exhibit explores the rich history of Missouri winemaking that is considered a vital part of the history of the state,” said Jim Anderson, executive director of the Missouri Wine & Grape Board. “This event is a great time to learn a little about the history and enjoy some of Missouri’s finest wines.” Local wineries have donated and loaned artifacts to the Mercantile Library for the history exhibit and will be on display through June 2007. Some of examples of the diverse collection of materials on display include vintage promotional posters, bottles and wine making equipment form the mid and late 19 th century. The exhibit also marks the establishment of a permanent research collection dedicated to Missouri wine and viticulture history based at the library. This Missouri wine event is open to the public; tickets to the event are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Mercantile Library is located at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, One University Blvd., St. Louis, Mo.
