For Immediate Release: August 10, 2006Market News Service Expands to Better Serve Missouri Farmers(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – The Missouri Department of Agriculture recently expanded the Market News service to better serve the needs of Missouri’s farmers and agricultural communities. Present in 23 livestock auctions throughout the state, the Department is now reporting from three additional markets including Mo-Kan Livestock in Passaic, Lolli Brothers Livestock in Macon and United Producers, Inc. in Maryville. “Along with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), we continuously provide Missouri livestock producers with current and accurate market information and we are thrilled that we have added to that service,” said Fred Ferrell, director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture. “This expansion of market news coverage is a direct result of the livestock industry’s overwhelming support for an unbiased, third-party price reporting system and our department’s effort to increase services to that important industry.” The Market News program guides producers in production planning and provides an even playing field in the marketplace through reliable, accurate and timely source for livestock and grain market news keeping them competitive and offering assistance in making wise and profitable marketing decisions. “This is an incredible asset to a state that is currently ranked second in the nation’s cow/calf production,” adds Ferrell.
