Security Guard

Salary: $903.50 semi-monthly

The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Missouri State Fair, has a full-time, benefited position located in Sedalia, Missouri.

Job Summary:
This is guard and patrol work securing and protecting Missouri State Fairground buildings and equipment against loss or damage from theft, fire, vandalism, or other causes and in the control of traffic and crowds. The person in this position will conduct rounds inside and/or outside of buildings; observe for prowlers, fires or other danger of loss or damage to property and prepare associated reports. Will participate in the direction and control of crowds on public property and respond to questions from the public. Will direct and control traffic at parking lots. Enforce institutional rules of behavior on grounds and report disturbances or unusual situations which cannot be resolved immediately to a supervisor or designee as instructed. Ensure lights are on or off as required and doors and gates are properly locked. Instruct new employee in the operation of fire protection equipment and ensure equipment remains in acceptable working condition. Receives close supervision until thoroughly familiar with the duties and responsibilities of position. Some of the skills and abilities required for this position include:

• Introductory knowledge of buildings and grounds to be patrolled, rules and regulations pertaining to entering and departing facilities, and institutional rules of behavior on grounds.
• Ability to follow a prescribed routine in making rounds to monitor assigned buildings and grounds.
• Ability to walk long distances for long periods of time alone, both indoors and outside under varying work and climatic conditions.
• Ability to apprehend prowlers and other suspects.
• Ability to be firm but tactful when required.
• Ability to meet the public, respond to questions and furnish information.

Minimum Qualifications:
Two or more years of work experience or self-employment; and possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate.
