Rice
Missouri ranks sixth in rice production in the nation. In 2000, 169,000 acres of rice were harvested in Missouri. Missouri rice producers are taking advantage of many value-added opportunities, including growing aromatic varieties of rice to export and sell here in the US. Other rice opportunities that are being developed include making particleboard from rice. Some entrepreneurs have captured an agritourism opportunity by charging duck hunters a fee to hunt ducks in flooded rice fields in the fall.
